A MEMORABLE VISIT TO RED ROCK IN COLORADO

A trip to Colorado in the USA is never complete without a visit to a place called Red Rock.

It is basically an open theatre situated on a hilltop and located in the middle of a valley of mountains naturally carved by years of corrosion by strong winds.


As evident from the pictures below,the basic structure is a marvel to watch.We are indeed fortunate to have been a witness to such a natural splendour, made more beautiful in the later stages by man.The centre and the audience enclosure,against the backdrop of the rugged mountain all around is indeed a breathtaking sight.



It is during the summer vacation in the US that artistes from all around the world including H.P.Chaurasia and Pandit Ravi Shankar among others,grace the stage to enthrall an audience seated to full capacity with a scintillating display of world music.It is no wonder that our visit to Red Rock will remain etched in our memory for a long long time.

Apart from the memories associated with our musical shows held within India,our visits to places like the USA are inevitably linked with nostalgic feelings.We have a sizeable fan following there consisting primarily of Indian youth alongwith many American fans too.


The Durga Puja festival in the USA is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.It is basically an all-in-one festival where the festive spirit is marked with sterling performances by people from diverse cultures throughout the length and breadth of India.


If the day is spent worshipping the Goddess Durga through chanting of hymns,the evening never fails to justify the mirth by a spectacular display of a Dandiya event.It is a colourful occasion made more beautiful by a total participation from all communities who dance to the tune of popular lyrics belted out by reknowned Dandiya singers from India.


Bandkaya too has lived up to the reputation and expectation of its followers in the USA.During one such busy schedule in Denver,USA,in the year 2007,an aged woman listening to our performance,got so emotional on hearing the flute played by SUBIR,that she started weeping profusely in front of everybody. Obviously our music had touched a sensitive chord and compelled her to associate the same with any event/happening in the past about which she never discussed with us. Nevertheless,it was a memorable event and the resultant interaction alongwith the deep satisfaction that we, as a band, had been able to please some lesser known mortal outside our motherland, made us feel proud as
Indians.

KAYA’s unique and electrifying stage-shows engross and involve people, blow out the mind with packed energy, rhythm and excitements, creating an everlasting love in the hearts of the audience, beyond the few moments of the show. Our new era of music brings a fresh breeze in the mind - that reflects a blend of rhythm in life mixed with stings of satire, cruel inevitability of life and the soulfullness of love. The songs of KAYA are the songs of the people evolved from the soil which break the walls of castes and creeds and colors and bind the world with eternal love.This is the hallmark of Kaya and it goes without saying that in a few years Kaya has been successful in establishing a rapport with the young as well as the old generation of music lovers.


With a series of about 600 successful and electrifying stage shows to our credit ,the enigma of BANDKAYA has never failed to live up to the expectations of music loving people.We have transcended the borders of Bengal with a view to reaching the people from all corners of India.Our music have also entertained thousands of non-resident Indians in the USA and other countries during festive seasons .The electrifying performances abroad and resultant bondage with genuine music lovers culminated with the Best Band Award we received in the year 2005 from ZEE ALPHA BANGLA .

As we all know, we are born into this world as a human being imbibed with the seven tunes of mortal existence which forms a predominant part of our body and soul. Our heart beats in tandem with our activities,our desires,our expressions.This rhythymic beat or ‘dhak-dhak’ , as one might prefer to call it,is further glorified when we attempt to identify and attach our mind ,body and soul with the existing tunes that we come across in our daily life.

Bangla band Kaya is not only a premier rock band but also a soulful,melodious phenomenon - a unique attempt to associate our soul and experiment with the natural music all around us by synthesizing the rich lyrics and blending the traditional tunes to the accompaniment of Ganjira, Khamak, Ektara,Khol and drumbeats with a view to producing a cross between folk and rock and add more colour and depth to local and traditional scores with the ultimate aim of sharing the music and creating an everlasting impression of love in the hearts of the audience.

The concept of forming a bangla band had originated in the mind of my friend Arindam - a bass guitarist by profession,way back in 2001. When the idea was communicated to me by Arindam , I (Bubai) decided to meet at a roadside tea stall near Lake Town in the northern fringes of Kolkata. After a preliminary discussion,we made up our mind to request Pulak - a vocalist, keyboard specialist as well as a composer, to drop in and discuss the idea at length. A friend of Pulak, namely Subir - a flutist by profession also joined us to give the final touches in our quest to form a bangla band which came to be known as KAYA.

In due course, two of our close friends from the world of music, namely Raju - a guitarist and Archan - a vocalist, joined our band and hence our journey as a bangla band hit the road with lots of hope and sky high aspirations.
